How to Cook Your Frozen Pierogies
Follow these easy cooking instructions and enjoy a bite of comfort from home.
Keep pierogies frozen until ready to cook
All Pierogi Must Be Boiled First. Pierogies have not been cooked and contain raw egg.
Boil:
Fill a large pot with water and add salt
Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
Carefully add the pierogi to the boiling water, ensuring they are not stacked on top of each other.
Stir gently to prevent sticking to bottom of pot
Let the pierogi cook in the boiling water and once they float, let them cook for an additional 1-2 minutes. Total cook time could be 3-6 minutes. *Do not over boil or pierogies may fall apart.
Using a slotted spoon or a strainer, carefully remove the cooked pierogi from the pot and drain any excess water.
Frying (Optional):
Heat a non stick skillet or frying pan over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter.
Once the butter is hot, add the drained boiled pierogi to the pan in a single layer, without crowding.
Cook the pierogi for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
Onions:
If your pierogi came with frozen onions follow one of these methods:
Place the onions in a non stick pan and heat onions breaking and stirring frequently until all have separated and hot (preferred method)
OR
Place frozen onions in microwave safe bowl and heat for 30 seconds. Stir and add a few more seconds if still cold
Serving:
Transfer the cooked pierogi to a serving dish.
Serve hot with your choice of toppings, such as sour cream, sautéed onions, bacon bits, or any other preferred condiments.
Reheat cooked pierogi in a non stick pan with butter - do not microwave
Enjoy your delicious pierogi!
